NOMADISM | April 2013

In the third millennium nomadism expands from antique tribal carpets to avant-garde design: new influences on contemporary life-style.

Lidewij Edelkoort, one of the most important trendsetters existing, decided to present for Altai the fruit of her digital research on nomadism for the Salone del Mobile 2013.
Since communication technology has become wireless, we have become autonomous, with no need for a desk or an office, and we continually reinvent our existence and our environment. The limits between work and leisure time are dissolving. We establish the priorities and we are ever freer in time and space. In the Altai area, Lidewij Edelkoort juxtaposes antique nomadic carpets to avant-garde objects of international design in a game of connections and contrasts.
Her gaze surpasses conventional temporal and geographical limits and embraces the most diverse, but never distant, cultures. The nomad tribes inspire Lidewij whether for a dynamic life among portable, flexible and multifunctional stories or for the ones we experience in our internal landscape.
