RAFFAELE CARRIERI GREW UP IN AN ECLECTIC ENVIRONMENT

The son of a photographer of architecture and design, the grandson and namesake of a significant figure in 20th century culture: a poet, a critic and one of the first collectors of primitive sculpture.
As a child, Raffaele met Picasso, Fontana and De Chirico, as well as all the great Italian architects and designers.

Raffaele listened, watched closely and travelled a lot. In Kurdistan he discovered rugged rolls, decorated felts, mats and piles of colourful fleece. He tracked the Indo-European nomadic culture all the way down to its cradle, deep in the Altai Mountains, where he found new talents that are 4000 years old. He will never let go of them.

In Milan, Raffaele met Elisa, happy to leave contemporary art and follow him from the very beginning of the Altai project and in life too. They live together, work together and together have created a unique space, a unique place, a unique world.

Quanti sguardi alle balaustre
e trapani nell’aria:
più nuda non potevi essere.
Da siepi e feritoie
spiavano i caprai,
ti tagliavano con gli occhi.
Più nuda non potevi essere
del pesce spada controvento.

Fra la gente vivo

e ballo da solo.
Di ragione privo
un poco mi consolo
di ciò che manca.
musica, musica!
