Of Azeri origin, the nomadic Qashqai have for centuries inhabited the southern regions of Persia. This typology was woven on small nomadic looms using very thin twisted wool so as to enhance heat insulation whilst guaranteeing the lightness necessary for frequent transport. The reduced size of the nomadic looms is evidenced by the fact that these kilims were woven in two pieces that were subsequently sewn together to achieve the required size. The dyes used were obtained from the natural surroundings and the simple patterns emphasize the remote symbolic origin of the stylized geometry.
